OVERVIEW

BlueHalo is seeking a highly motivated and skilled research scientist to join our research team focused on the encapsulation of nanoparticles for various material applications. The successful candidate will work on developing, optimizing, and scaling-up methods for affordable, large-scale encapsulation of nanoparticles with polymers and bio-derived materials. This role will involve close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams with expertise in nanomaterial synthesis, material characterization, biomaterials, and application development

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Design and conduct experiments for the encapsulation of nanoparticles using a variety of materials (e.g., polymers, bio-derived materials, lipids, etc.).
  • Develop and optimize encapsulation and/or stabilization methods to achieve desired property and processing characteristics for various end applications.
  • Characterize the physical and chemical properties of encapsulated/stabilized nanoparticles relevant to successful encapsulation/stabilization, subsequent processibility, and end application.
  • Investigate the compatibility and potential applications of encapsulated/stabilized resultant nanoparticles in imaging, or sensing.
  • Collaborate with team members from different engineering, manufacturing, and product development disciplines.
  • Analyze data, write reports, and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research findings at workshops.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING

  • MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Polymers, Nanotechnology or a related field.
  • Strong experience in encapsulation and nanomaterial processing techniques.
  • Proficiency in characterization methods relevant to encapsulation/stabilization and process scale-up.
  • Experience with solution processing and behavior of polymers & biomaterials, and knowledge of nanoparticle applications is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with encapsulation science and technology and functionalization of nanoparticles for targeted applications.
  • Familiarity with material selection, formulation, and process optimization to target scale-up methods that achieve affordability metrics established by application.
  • Background in modeling or simulation of solution scale up processes and manufacturing.
  • Experience with nanomaterials process development for solution- and solid-phase processing (including formation of dry powders)
