UES, Inc. is expanding its team pushing the boundaries of Digital Manufacturing Research in conjunction with the Air Force Research Laboratory. We are seeking a research scientist with skills and experience in manufacturing-informed design.
Our team is working collaboratively with the Department of the Air Force researchers advancing and applying recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to develop and validate the tools to make complex manufacturing informed design decisions more approachable and computationally affordable to accelerate development and deployment of next generation manufacturing capabilities in future Air Force programs.
Advanced manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing (one of many potential application areas) have dramatically expanded the design space for aerospace components, both in terms of geometry and material properties, however, these new techniques also bring new uncertainties, and many limitations persist. Navigating this complex environment to provide designs which are both high-performing as well as manufacturable requires AI/ML tools to integrate the materials and manufacturing considerations during the design phase, such that ‘design’ now includes specifications for its production to achieve the desired level of performance.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for proposing, developing, and characterizing novel process-informed AI/ML enabled design routines leveraging approaches such as topology optimization and generative design.
